Amongst the plethora of superb speakers is a first outing for Andrew Wolstenholme. The man who led the execution of the Terminal 5 project is just days into his new role as Chief Executive of Crossrail. This will be the first chance to hear publicly from Andrew exactly what Crossrail will do for the UK’s economy and how it will help Heathrow including the controversial recommendation for it to replace the Heathrow Express.

Allan Gregory, BAA Surface Access Director will present the plans for connections to Heathrow from the west and the benefits of High Speed 2 coming to Heathrow. Another with a huge interest in HS2 is John Morris of Birmingham Airport who says that his airport can become Heathrow’s third runway once HS2 is built.

There are some who say that Heathrow is now a declining airport with its capacity constraints and the emergence of mega hub airports in Europe that provide excellent route networks and interchange facilities. Christian Spaak will talk about the forthcoming Berlin Brandenburg mega hub that opens in 2012 and promises to take market share from its competitions in Europe. From a planning and design perspective Stefan Krummeck will talk about best practices in Asia and Jonathon Parr about another mega hub in Beijing and what the Thames Estuary Hub might look like.

Delegates will also hear from the airlines who are so passionate about surface access to their planes that they are demanding improved links and cooperation with train companies. Paul Simmons of easyJet will describe how some airports are closer to the centre of City than you think and from Yu-Ming Sie on why his KLM have taken an equity stake in a train company in Holland.

For those concerned about shorter time horizons, such as London’s 2012 Olympics, two London airports that directly serve the Olympic park with rail links, Southend and London City, will discuss how they will help get the 64% of overseas travellers who are expected to arrive by air to the games.

Gerard Borel of Airports Council International Europe will talk on the challenges for his members and esteemed academic Matthew Coogan from the USA will be describing the results of his latest major research project on high speed rail in the USA and its synergies with Aviation.

For those who like the cutting edge technology, Sander Baumann will talk about how facial recognition can solve that perennial problem of confused passengers and wayfinding using holographic projection.

Last, John Hammersley will present the futuristic Heathrow Pods that will revolutionise travel in the future - we will also get a chance to ride the pods and look behind the scenes to see how it all works.

The organisers have put together a superb line-up to describe and discuss some of the most relevant issues for transport over the next decade. At £465 this represents excellent value. If you are in rail or air and are interested in the future I would recommend this are the must-do event to attend before year end.
