Southend Airport on schedule for Autumn 2011
The new terminal – which is one of several construction projects required to make London Southend a fully-functioning regional airport by 2012 - is on target to be operational by October 2011.
The new light, modern and airy building has been designed with a number of green initiatives. It will be a two-minute walk via a covered walkway from the new London Southend Airport Railway Station.
According to the airport, the whole terminal has been planned to give customers a swift, hassle-free journey from Check-In to Boarding, with minimal walking distances a key consideration.
“The terminal is coming along really well, with all the steel in place now,” says London Southend Airport’s Managing Director, Alastair Welch. “This is an exciting time for South end, with all our plans for development starting to come to fruition. The airport’s superb new railway station is almost complete and ready to go fully operational, the new control tower is now in the final phase of completion with work on the runway extension and new airport hotel due to start later this year. 2011 is when London Southend Airport finally goes on the international air travel map as a fast, friendly and efficient new gateway to London.”
The airport is predicting passenger growth to 2 million passengers per year by 2020.
