bordeaux-airport-For the last eight months the feasibility study on a direct rail link from the airport to Central St.Jean train station in Bordeaux has been carried out by EFFIA consultancy and identified seven different possible corridors, Commercial Development Director of Bordeaux Airport Company Jean-Luc Poiroux said to airrail NEWS.

According to Poiroux, the first conclusions are:
  • the investment for such a link is expensive to build for the airport itself, but the great benefits for the community could attract funds from the local political institutions.
  • despite a high density of construction between the airport and Bordeaux city centre, it is possible to build a quick direct rail link. The estimated journey time between the airport and city could be less than 15 min.
The second phase of the study carry out more precise assessment of the market for such a link, like point to point market and interconnection with regional rail links to the airport via Central station, as well as more detailed evaluation of various financing options: who can contribute to the investment, how can such financial project be built, first evaluation of yearly profit and loss operations and etc.

“This second phase of the study will be launched once the support would be granted from the various local political institutions (cities of Mérignac and Bordeaux, Conurbation of Bordeaux, Department of Gironde and Aquitaine region)”, Poiroux added.
