KRC Managing Director Nduva Muli, said the corporation had already contracted El Noor Construction to build the Syokimau station, while the refurbishment of existing tracks and laying of new railway tracks will be jointly undertaken by the corporation and Rift Valley Railways (RVR).

"We signed the contract with the construction firm this week, and works on the ground will start in a few weeks, latest by end of January," said Muli.

"We will partner with RVR in refurbishing and construction of new railway lines, mostly because there are no specialised contractors for this kind of work, and RVR has technical capacity."

The project will be funded by the Government.
