Sochi airport rail link to open sooner than planned

“Russian Railways plans to launch services between Adler and Sochi Airport ahead of schedule – in December 2011. This will allow us to ease transport problems within Sochi”, Vladimir Yakunin said. The decision to launch the line early was made at the request of Sochi authorities and the Olympic Committee. Currently the only access between Adler railway station and Sochi airport is via road.
It is estimated that 60% of tourists flying to Sochi will use the new express rail route. The Aeroexpress line will be able to carry at least 86 thousand people a day, easing congestion in on the highway between the airport and the city centre. The high-speed electric trains will synchronise their schedules with the flight schedules at Sochi Airport, ensuring the best service possible for travellers.
Aeroexpress lines already operate in Moscow connecting four major airports, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Lobnya, with city centre rail terminus.
