One station closer to the Rhode Island airport rail link

Designed as an alternative to the heavily travelled corridor of I-95 and Route 4 in the southern part of the state, the Station will extend existing Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) trains from Boston, Massachusetts to Providence and starting this fall, to the InterLink at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.

Through a design/build contract with Manafort Brothers, Inc., the station will include an 800-foot train platform and a 1,100-space onsite parking garage. Amtrak will provide $7 million of track and signalling work. The Wickford Junction Train Station and parking garage is currently slated for completion at the end of September 2011.

Construction of the $267 million Warwick Intermodal Station is also coming to a close. This project includes the station, a consolidated rental car facility, a bus hub for local and intercity buses and a parking garage to accommodate both the rental car fleets and commuter rail passengers.
