Gimpo Airport rail station accommodates two other commuter rail lines: Line 5 and Line 9, so the move comes as a way to ease passengers’ transfer to AREX Airport Express and continue their journey to Incheon International Airport.

AREX is the Republic of Korea's largest ever private investment project and its first public private partnership railway project.

The Phase 1 opened in 2007 and connects Incheon International Airport with Gimpo Airport. The remaining 20.7 km of the line, connecting Gimpo Airport with downtown Seoul, is due for completion this year.
