Troubled Honolulu Airport Rail Line to move away from runway

The change allows the Federal Transit Administration to move ahead with completion of the project's final Environmental Impact Statement.
“This is great news that shows significant progress toward breaking ground on this badly needed project that is so important for Oahu’s future,” Mayor Hannemann said.

Gov. Linda Lingle would still need to approve the EIS, once she receives it. Lingle plans to do her own independent study of the project's finances and says she will not give final approval if she believes the finances are not in order.
Construction of the segment is expected to begin in 2014. The city plans to contact affected property owners.
