“At the moment, Japanese consultants are carrying out the Feasibility Study for the project by the funding from METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan)”, Han Nhu Quynh, Deputy Director of International Relations Department, Vietnam Railways confirmed to airrail NEWS .
The 47 km (29 mile) double-track line would connect Noi Bai International Airport with three stations in the capital.

“The section running from Ngoc Hoi through Ha Dong, My Dinh, Thang Long Bridge to Noi Bai Airport is about 47 km long including 39 km of existing national railway section and the 8 km new section” Quynh added.
“It is not decided yet who will execute the project including upgrading the existing national railway section and the construction of a new short section with the technical specification of double track, standard gauge and electrification”
As Quynh informed airrail NEWS, at the moment passenger and freight trains are operating in the existing 39 km railway section.
“Since the Feasibility Study is not finalised yet, the cost of the project is not confirmed but it is expected to be about USD 680 million”, Quynh said.
He added “We want to start the project as soon as possible but it is also dependant on the commitment of financial sources”.
Mistake: The previous announcement that the new train will be 'Shinkansen-style' is incorrect. airrail NEWS apologises our readers for any confusion caused.
