The Commission will vote at its meeting later this week on funds to plan for double tracking of the New Haven–Hartford–Springfield Commuter Rail Line (NHHS) as the state positions itself to compete for federal funds for the project.

The $26 million are needed to upgrade portions of the 62-mile rail route, as well as environmental and engineering studies.

The project includes double-tracking the existing 62-mile line, which is owned and operated by Amtrak and currently carries both Amtrak passenger trains and freight trains.

NHHS Rail Route
When built, the service would run between New Haven and Springfield Monday through Friday on a 30-minute peak period schedule. The plan is to add several new stations, and a branch to Bradley International Airport or a bus connection from the Windsor Locks station.
