Among the projects submitted by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is the Pittsburgh High-Speed Magnetic Levitation Project Phase A: funding to design and construct the first segment - Pittsburgh International Airport to Downtown Pittsburgh. Phase A construction totals $2.3 billion and the commonwealth is seeking full funding for the project.
The Pennsylvania Project's route will connect the Pittsburgh International Airport to Downtown Pittsburgh, and the Eastern suburbs of Monroeville and Greensburg.

The route will cover 54 miles (87 km) and will take approximately 35 minutes including stops from start to end. Journey from the Airport to downtown Pittsburgh will take 8 minutes.
The projects were submitted under Track 2 of the $8 billion Recovery Act's high-speed passenger rail initiative, which aims to substantially upgrade existing services or develop new high-speed rail corridor or intercity passenger rail services.
