After the section will be completed, the travel time between the airport and Taoyuan will shorten from 20 minutes to about 10 minutes. The bureau had planned to start operations by June 2013, however, it now hopes that the section between the high-speed rail station in Taoyuan and the airport could begin operations at least six months earlier than scheduled. The entire 51.3km route of the Airport Rail — from the Taipei Railway Station to Jhongli — is scheduled for operations in October 2014.

The Taoyuan County Government will be in charge of the Airport Rail system. The bureau and the county government are conducting negotiations and plan to sign a contract by the end of the year.
