The number of passenger trips has risen to an average of 430,000 daily, compared to the first year's average of 156,000, representing an increase of 161 per cent, according to director Anat Arbhabhirama.

In order to expand capacity of the existing fleet of 3-car trains, BTSC has purchased 12 additional 4-Car trains, to serve overall increasing patronage demands and extended service on the Silom Line. Delivery of new trains will start by the end of this year.

An extension of Silom Line is expected to be in operation in May 2009. An interchange with the Airport Rail Link at Phayathai Station is also planned.
