Approximately 180 km of rail will be laid by Isithimela, the local company, connecting Johannesburg, Pretoria and the OR Tambo International Airport. The Midrand–Sandton–OR Tambo International Airport (Phase 1) section of the route is taking priority, scheduled for completion in mid-2010.
Sufficient trackworks are expected to be in place in time for the Gautrain’s first track test, which is scheduled to take place early in 2009.
