‘The new railway link will provide comfortable connection with Vilnius airport and help the passengers to avoid the traffic in the city. I believe that this train will become an important part of Lithuanian capital public transport. It is estimated that there will be 3-4 thousand passengers every day’, - according to the Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Algirdas Butkevicius.
The existing railway line Vilnius-Kirtimai-Valciunai-Stasylos was used for the new air-rail link. The station infrastructure is implemented together with AB Lithuanian Railways and the International Vilnius Airport. The project costs are 4 mln. Lt.
Lithuanian Railways bought a special one carriage train for this new route. The train will run approximately every 40 minutes, first one will leave the railway station at 5 am and the last – 48 minutes after midnight. There will be 27 journeys every day.
The check-in facility in the railway station is already foreseen for the future.
